#7308 Food, Function and FormulaUnderstanding the Triad of Pediatric Nutrition

Pediatric therapists encounter many challenges when working with children who have special needs. When a child is not properly nourished, they cannot focus, grow and have the energy to master gross and fine motor skills. The purpose of this course is to introduce practitioners to certain nutrition dilemmas they may encounter in practice that could impede progress in their area. Using discussion and case studies, the participant will be provided with tools to troubleshoot these potential issues, recognize when the expertise of a clinical dietitian is needed and how to best access them. Information will include deciphering infant and pediatric formulas, ways RD’s maximize nutrition when a child is not able to eat optimally, and disease specific concerns that arise in children with cerebral palsy, feeding dysfunction, autism and other common pediatric diagnoses. Focus will be placed on how to collaborate with registered dietitians, how to know when their expertise is necessary and to access them in your community.
