#400 Cardiac Rehab Patient Consideration for Evaluation and Treatment
7411- Cardiorespiratory dysfunction can interfere with the optimization of client functional goal attainment. The purpose of this course is to provide clinicians with evidence-based tools for examination and intervention of the patient with cardiorespiratory dysfunction. This course will focus on preparing the rehabilitation professional to examine and treat the client with heart failure and will provide an overview of the current evidence related to cardiopulmonary dysfunction. Evidence will include an in-depth discussion of the most recent revision of the Clinical Practice Guideline for Heart Failure from the American Physical Therapy Association.
The course will provide information on diagnostics, prognosis, examination for stability and the most current evidence based recommendations for intervention that will optimize the client’s ability to perform ADLs, participate in socialization, and optimize functional outcomes. In addition, this course will review the availability of examination tools to evaluate airway, breathing and circulation impairments for various client populations (pediatric through geriatric) and evidence-based intervention tools that will optimize client outcomes. Course activities will include hands on lab content for examining airway, breathing and aerobic capacity.
Course instruction method includes: lecture, demonstration, picture/graphs, group discussion, case studies, videos, and question/answers.
