#7255 Foot Drop & Falls Post Stroke: AFO-Related Innovative Interventions for Safe Mobility

Falls due to foot drop during activities of daily living (ADLs) and participation in life roles are common among stroke survivors. Physical therapy practitioners have ample opportunities to address foot drop at the body structure function and activity levels though interventions that focus on recovery, prevention and compensation. Physical therapy practitioners are missing one innovative AFO-related strategy that can reduce falls and furthermore, improve the probability of fall recovery through the developmental sequence of high kneel to half kneel, then to sitting or standing. This course addresses how physical therapy practitioners can apply this innovation that will improve safe mobility needed for gait during ADLs and therapeutic interventions related to societal roles with the outcome of reducing falls and mastering fall recovery.
