Part One: Concussion or mild Traumatic Brain Injury is a serious public health concern. In the course, designed for physical and occupational therapists, foundational concepts of concussion and its acute management are discussed. Current recommendations from Clinical Practice Guidelines are outlined. The definition, epidemiology, pathophysiology, and mechanisms of injury are described in detail. Acute management principles, including reasons for referral are detailed. Return to play guidelines and factors affecting prognosis are covered. (Intermediate Level)

Part Two: Concussions cause extremely diverse impairments and functional limitations. Patient who have had mTBI or concussion should thus be managed according to their unique presentations of signs and symptoms. Clinical researchers have developed a model with clinical subtypes in an effort to improve assessment and thus treatment of patients. In this course, these unique clinical profiles will be discussed in depth. The course will then provide an introduction to elements of the concussion examination with these five primary profiles in mind. The interplay of the profiles and the interaction of other factors such as sleep and cervical dysfunction will be described. (Intermediate Level)

Part Three: The vestibular and oculomotor are frequently affected after a concussion. The possible impairments may include dizziness, blurry vision, headache, and disequilibrium. As a result, there may be difficulty with a variety of functional tasks included reading, walking, and balance. This instructional module will cover various assessments and tests of the vestibular, oculomotor, and balance systems and the interpretation of the potential findings. Basic treatment principles will be introduced. (Intermediate Level)
