#7363 Ocular Motor Skills for Classroom Success

This continuing education course provides occupational therapy practitioners with a practical understanding of how ocular motor skills—specifically saccades, pursuits, and fixation endurance—support classroom performance in reading and writing tasks. Participants will explore the functional role of these visual skills, identify how deficits may present as academic struggles or behavioral concerns, and distinguish between appropriate OT screening and referral indicators.

The course emphasizes evidence-informed, school-based intervention strategies, including both

desk-based and movement-based approaches, to improve visual efficiency and engagement. Attendees will also learn how to promote skill carryover into meaningful academic outcomes such as reading fluency, accurate copying, and sustained attention during classroom work.

Course instruction method includes: lecture, Pictures/Graphs, Videos, Group Discussion, Case Studies, and Question/Answer
