#7445 Aquatic Exercise Program

The aquatic environment provides a unique opportunity to implement a therapeutic exercise program.  The properties of water significantly change how we move.  Using these properties properly can allow for increased ease of movement in some ways and also provide intense resistance in other ways. This course will explore properties such as buoyancy, water density, and hydrostatic pressure and explain how to use them to achieve the desired therapeutic goals.  A variety of aquatic devices will be discussed to help to implement the aquatic properties.  Risks, contraindications, and precautions will be examined to achieve a safe environment. Finally, three cases will be assessed to provide a practical application of the principles of this course.
